I had never read any of Patience McElwee’s books as a child, so was interested to see if I would enjoy them as an adult.
They were all very readable and of their time. In fact I would have loved to have been a child in those days!
The one which I enjoyed most and which quite touched me, was The Merrythoughts. Those poor kids were in the social spotlight with famous parents and no friends- it was a bit before its time in that way. Luckily, a happy ending for all concerned.
Definitely all worth a read for the nostalgia.
