Gillian Baxter

Gillian Baxter began writing when she was small. Her earliest books were about her guinea-pigs, but after her first book Horses and Heather, was published in 1956, she never looked back.

Her books were about girls finding their way in the world, navigating the horse world and relationships.

She said: "I wrote about the age I knew and stayed with them as they grew up. I think it’s important to go with your characters."

Jane Badger Books are delighted to be bringing back her early books, and fans will be just as delighted to know that Gillian wrote a series of follow-ons for the Bracken Stables series.

Gillian Baxter died in March 2025 in Pembrokeshire, where she lived, with her family.
